The Group Policy object (GPO) comparison reports that are available, for example, in the Group Policy Restore Wizard, do not support and thus provide no information about the Group Policy settings held in the below-listed locations. This article provides the locations in the form they are displayed in the Group Policy Editor (GPEdit) tool.
The locations that hold unsupported Group Policy settings are as follows:
- Microsoft and Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Wireless Network Policies
Note: Only the Group Policy settings delivered with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 are not supported. Other Group Policy settings held in this location are supported in the GPO comparison reports.
- Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Public Key Policies
- Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Public Key Policies\Encrypting File System
- Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\IP Security Policies
- Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Policy-based QoS
- User Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Public Key Policies
- User Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Public Key Policies\Enterprise Trust
- User Configuration\Windows Settings\Policy-based QoS
This behavior is by design.
Disregard the fact that the GPO comparison reports provide no information about the Group Policy settings held in the above-listed locations. The Group Policy Restore Wizard indeed supports restoring these Group Policy settings.
