Rapid Recovery defaults to guest quiescing when taking a VMware snapshot -
Description
Rapid Recovery's agent-less protection for VMware VMs still calls Windows VSS during the backup process. -
Cause
This is caused due to Rapid Recovery defaulting to taking a VMware guest quiesced snapshot when it takes a backup. -
Resolution
The backup is valid and the data inside the recovery point is intact, it just might come as a surprise to see that Windows VSS is still called during the course of the backup.
To enable/disable quiescing you would:
- Select either the VC, ESXi host, or the VM itself from the left within the core console
- Go to agent's settings
- Navigate to vSphere and either select or deselect "Allow quiesced snapshots"
- Apply changes.
