Resolution:
To configure the Server Role on server Y
In Windows 2K12 & 2K12 R2 you will want to add the role, it is a server role:
File and Storage Services > Files and iSCSI Services > iSCSI Target Server
To configure the iSCSI disk
- Open up Server Manager
- One the left click on File and Storage Services
- You should see iSCSI listed in the menu, click on iSCSI
- In the window pane you should see a hyper link to create an iSCSI virtual disk, click the link
- In the next window it’ll show the types of mounted storage available, choose you sever (generally your local machine is all that is listed), and then the volume where you want the virtual disk stored, or specify a custom path. Click Next
- Give your virtual disk a name, description, click Next
- Specify the size of the virtual disk, and choose if you want it to be Fixed Size, Dynamic, or Differencing. Click Next
- On this page you define the access list of whom will use this virtual disk. You can either select an existing (if you have one) or create a new one, click Next
- If you create a new one, you will name the connection, click Next
- Click Add and specify the nodes that will access the virtual disk. You can specify an number of IP or IQN addresses to associate. Click OK when finished.
- Click Next
- Here you specify CHAP if you use it, for reference most do not. Click Next
- At the Confirm page review your settings and click Create
- After the tasks are completed click Close
* It is important to note a restart of the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target service may be needed
After the virtual disk is setup you’ll need to add the IQN address or the IP address of the network adapter you wish this iSCSI traffic to use to whatever technology will be access this virtual disk.
