How to Perform a Rollback with Live Recovery of a Data Volume (4035425)

This article serves as a how-to guide on performing a restore of a data volume using Rapid Recovery.

In order to perform a rollback of a data volume, the following components are required:

• Valid recovery points and a functioning Rapid Recovery Core.
  • A volume on a machine to restore to:
  • This can be to the machine that originally had the data volume or to another machine that has a valid NTFS volume with enough space.
  • The intended target volume must be of the exact same size or larger than the original volume.
  • Live recovery to a volume smaller than the original is not supported.
  • If you are going to another machine, that machine must also be a protected agent by the AppAssure Core.
• Please note that system drives (SRP and C:\) cannot be restored through Live Rollback.

The following steps detail how to perform a restore/live recovery of a data volume.

Initiating Restore on the Rapid Recovery core Console

1. Launch the Core Console.
2. Click on the machine data is restoring from, and select the Recovery Points tab.
3. Expand the desired recovery point to restore from by clicking the arrow beside it.
4. Click Restore.
5. In the Restore dialog box, choose restore to original machine or alternate machine radio button.
   • If you chose original machine:
   1. Click Load Volumes.
   2. In the Volume Mapping pane map the correct data volume in the recovery point to an available volume on the machine to restore to.
   3. NOTE: Only one volume can have Live Recovery enabled per machine that is being restored. There is no way to enable Live Recovery of multiple volumes for the same Agent.
   4. After volume mapping is configured, click Next.
   5. If necessary, click on the "advanced options" box at this stage, and select the appropriate options, (Live recovery and Force Dismount) and click Next
   6. Dismount any databases if necessary and click Next
   7. Take note of any warning messages, and action them, and click Finish
   8. If the live restore option was selected, then the data on the volume being restored will be available within a few moments of starting the restore
