After upgrading the backup agents to 10.0 from an earlier version your backups are no longer working on 2012R2, 2016 or 2019 servers.
You receive the following message:
"Unable to execute request (111). Unable to gather Volume Shadow Copy Service information. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
There are three ways to resolve this issue, ordered in preference
1. Upgrade VMWare tools to version 10.2.0 or higher.
2. Edit the registry key causing this issue: “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsock\ImagePath”
The entry will look like “\SystemRoot\system32\drivers\vsock.sys” in affected versions.3. Disable the "Boot Files" component under the "System State" tab under the "Collection Properties" for affected collections.
