ReACL Fails with System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object (4316796)

ReACL tasks for a device fail and display the following error message:

ReACL failed System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

You may also see this in the logs:

Skipping irrelevant User Profile folder ''

• A user profile entry exists in the ProfileList registry key without a valid ImagePath.
• The profile may appear normal in User Profiles on the device but is missing required registry keys.

You have two options:

Option 1: Clean Up Registry

1. Open Registry Editor on the affected device.

2. Identify any profile entries missing ImagePath.
3. Delete the incomplete registry keys and remove the corresponding user profile from the device.
4. Retry the ReACL process.

Option 2: Update Device ReACL Profile Settings

1. Go to Migration for Active Directory → Setup → Profiles → Device ReACL.
2. Select the profile used and click Edit.
3. Click Next twice.
4. Under Profile Failure Action, choose Log Warning Entry from the drop-down menu.
5. Save the profile.
6. Run ReACL again.

Notes

• Always back up the registry before making changes.
• Using Log Warning Entry allows the process to continue without failing completely.
