When remigrating (and merging) objects from one domain to another new objects get created in target domain, instead of merging into existign objects.
New objects have different sAMAccountNames, eg. $432983748502-9832.
This will happen if one of the following conditions is true:
and/or
The tool will not perform a check for the SamAccountName, it will skip that attribute and will create a new object with an empty (blank, missing) SamAccountName. But AD doesn’t allow such objects and AD will immediately generate a random SamAccountName. And will populate that attribute with a random value, where the first character is usually a dollar sign ($).
Note: such objects often are not visible in AD at first glance, because they have a blank displayName.
Do not skip the attribute SamAccountName.
Under Domain Pair Properties, under Object Matching Tab, in the field 'Match Target Objects By', select the checkbox for "Account name".
