Most Organizations would charge back for Storage and Internet mail, or Internal Mail and Internet Mail, but not necessarily for all three.
Cost per MB stored: Add up the following and divide by the number of mailboxes:
- Total mailbox server hardware costs, pro-rated to server capacity
- Mailbox license costs (OS, Exchange, MessageStats, etc.)
- % of FTEs $s to set up, maintain and backup mailbox servers
- % of Backup hardware (servers, tapes, licenses) pro-rated for mailbox backups
- % of Disaster Recovery hardware & FTE $s pro-rated for mailbox backups
Following factors can also be considered:
o Power costs
o Sq ft costs
Cost per Internet MB Sent: Add the following and divide by the number of MBs (Megabytes) of Internet Mail
- Cost of Internet pipe(s) pro-rated to Exchange traffic/usage
- Gateway server hardware costs
- % of FTEs $s to set up, maintain and backup gateway servers
- % of Backup hardware $s (servers, tapes, licenses) pro-rated for server backups
- Licenses (OS, Exchange, MessageStats, AV, SPAM, etc.)
Following factors can also be considered:
o Power costs
o Sq ft costs
Note that this would be be different for each company. Some companies will charge back all costs; others will determine that certain costs are basic and they charge back for additional costs. For example, they don�t charge for the server cost itself, only for the physical hard drive costs.
