How to Run Repository Maintenance Jobs (4040380)

This KB describes Repository maintenance options found in the Core Console: Check and Perform Optimization Job.

Steps:

1. The two standard maintenance jobs for DVM repositories are:
   • Check (Repository Check): This action performs a full repository check which includes:
     • Check repository
     • Mounting repository
     • Recalculate deduplication cache fore repository
     • Loading the recovery point from the repository
     • CAUTION:Before you run the Repository Check, carefully consider the duration of time required. While the job is running, no other transactions can be performed in that repository. The amount of time it takes to run this job is dependent upon the size of the repository, amount of data in the repository, Core CPU & RAM, and IO of repository volume(s) (based on disk IO and connection to the volume(s)).
   • Perform Optimization Job: This action forces a comparison of the data in your snapshots to the information in the deduplication cache. If any repeated strings are found in the repository, that data is replaced with references to the data, which saves storage space in the repository with future backups. This is sometimes referred to as off-line deduplication, since this deduplication process occurs upon your request, instead of incrementally as snapshot data is transferred.  For more information regarding the optimization job please review KB 186673.
     • CAUTION:While this job is running, jobs will continue to run except for repository maintenance and recovery point deletion jobs. The optimization process is processor intensive. The amount of time it takes to run this job is dependent upon the size of the dedupe cache, size of the repository, amount of data in the repository, Core CPU & RAM, and IO of repository volume(s) (based on disk IO and connection to the volume(s)).
2. Open the Core Console, click the More menu, and then click Repositories.
3. The Repositories page appears and all repositories attached to your Core are displayed.
4. On the row representing the repository you want to maintain, click the Action drop down on the far right.
5. Select you job you choose to run.
6. Click Yes to confirm and begin the job.
