The Top CPU Process Trend graph present in the Hosts > Host Monitor > CPU details dashboard provides metrics for a process under investigation but when modifying the time range to show more historical data (E.g. the last 6 months), the graph includes metrics for CPUs but not for the process under review.
Example:
The reported behavior can happen if the process was restarted because the trend for the topCPUProcesses complex observation will only include processes that are present in the last value from the selected time range and the process Id. (PID) would have changed.
OPTION 1
If monitoring all processes ("Collect Top N processes only" set to "False" in the agent properties), additional information on processes can be reviewed from the Processes tab in the Host Monitor dashboard.
OPTION 2
Select a time range so that the end date is before historical metrics stop for the current process in order to get metrics from the previous run of the process.
For example, based on the graph in the description, specify a time range from before Jun 14; it would be expected for the PID in the Top CPU consumers table to change.
Note: The Top CPU Consumer list and Top CPU Process Trend chart may show different processes as the list only shows the last observed value and the chart is a trend over multiple collections. The Top CPU Processes agent property can be modified for additional processes to be captured in each sample and increase the likelihood a top process is included in the chart for a given time range.
