Unable to filter a Custom inventory Rule using Smart Label or Advanced Search methods when using REGEX -
Description
When you use the Smart Label or Advanced Search, under Inventory | Devices to filter which managed devices comply with it and zero devices return.
For example:
The .cfg file, is located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\BBWin\etc\bbwin.cfg" on all servers.
To confirm it works. Check through, Inventory › Devices › Device Detail.

Cause
The Smart Label or Advanced Search features are capable of using these options: matches REGEX, or contains. However, it may depend how the data is returned.
Note: When searching for the results of the custom inventory rule's ShellCommandTextReturn output, it does not return results when using =, <, >, is NULL, begins with, or ends with to filter.

Resolution
Shown below is an example of a successful custom inventory rule. The example .cfg file was supposed to get devices with different records than 45d.
After saving the custom inventory rule, you can verify it worked by viewing the rule under the Custom Inventory Field of an inventoried device and the record will not show any values containing 45d.

If it is necessary to test. The test for this article, was with machines using Windows 7 Professional and Windows Server 2008 R2. K1000: 6.3.113397 Agent: 6.3.314 1. Ask for the .cfg file. 2. Create a Custom Inventory rule. Complete as needed. 3. Use this line ShellCommandTextReturn(cmd.exe /c type "C:\Program Files (x86)\BBWin\etc\bbwin.cfg") 4. Path where the .cfg file resides, "C:\Program Files (x86)\BBWin\etc\bbwin.cfg". 5. Create folders as per our customer environment, point# 4, if possible. And download the cfg. file on test machines. Otherwise, create own path. 6. Complete the test following explanation or screenshots above.
