Speed up ControlPoint Search (4286178)

The ControlPoint Search feature takes a very long time to return any result or does not return any result at all after searching for a site by name or URL.

By default, Search does a live query of the farm. In large environments, this can result in a very long wait time and, occasionally, a failure to provide a result.

To resolve performance issues with live search, users have the option to configure ControlPoint to search the data cached in the ControlPoint service database (xcAdmin). This will allow for much quicker results on searches for site names and URLs.

1. Open the ControlPoint Configuration Site (e.g. http://servername:1818).
2. Select the ControlPoint Setting list and expand the Navigation category.

   

3. Edit the CACHEDSEARCH parameter and change its value to 'true'.

   

4. Recycle the ControlPoint application pool in IIS Manager.

Keep in mind that results will be limited to the data successfully cached during the Full Discovery process and stored in the xcAdmin database. This normally will include all site collection and site names and URLs. List and library names and URLs are not captured during discovery and will not return during a search leveraging cached data.
