KACE SDA Post-Installation Task to install KACE SMA Agent -
Description
This article demonstrates how to update the built-in Post-installation task to install the KACE SMA (formerly known as K1000) agent with a newer version. Updating an existing task also updates all your corresponding Scripted Installation and Images that contain the task. -
Cause
The KACE SDA can add the built-in post-installation tasks and use the Choose Action menu selections to add your own tasks to a script to run as a post-installation task. The appliance runs the task in the runtime environment that you specify.For more information about this topic, please see the administrator guide -
Resolution
From KACE SMA:
- Download the KACE SMA Agent file from \\SMA_host_name\client\agent_provisioning\windows_platform to a local directory.
- Retrieve KACE_TOKEN from SMA, use the following instructions

From KACE SDA:
To update the built-in post-installation task to install the agent:
- Log in to KACE SDA web interface.
- Click Library | Post-installation Tasks | Choose Action | Add SMA Agent Installer...
- In Name, enter a name that reflects the agent version.
- Select Windows Run-Time Environment.
- Click Browse and select the .MSI file copied from KACE SMA Samba Share.
- In Parameter: edit the following:
- For Windows: Edit the pre-configured parameters. Where SMAagent.msi is your installer file name and SMA_hostname is the hostname of your SMA:
msiexec /i kaceagent.msi HOST=sma_hostname TOKEN=sma_token /qn - For Non-Windows Use the KACE_HOST and KACE_TOKEN environment variables to specify the appliance host name and agent token before you run the installation file, or:
Manually change the installation file name using the following syntax: _+.
- For Windows: Edit the pre-configured parameters. Where SMAagent.msi is your installer file name and SMA_hostname is the hostname of your SMA:
- Click Save.

For KACE Agent 13.0 version and newer:
- Example 1: msiexec.exe /i SMAagent.msi HOST=SMA_hostname TOKEN=SMA_token /qn
- Example 2: msiexec.exe /i SMAagent_KSMA_hostname+SMA_token.msi /qn
