Make sure the username and password are configured correctly.
If https is configured,
1. Make sure the certificate is trusted so there are no warnings
2. Make sure the AfterMail URL config setting has “https”
3. Make sure the remote URL starts with “https”
4. Make sure the configured user has "Search All Instance" role assigned.
5. Make sure the configured user can browse to the aftermailservice.asmx web address without errors
