Description
OVAL scan schedules are failing on Mac and Linux systems with Java JRE or openJDK versions 17.x or higher. -
Cause
The third party component used for OVAL scans does not support Java versions higher than 16.x at this time.

Resolution
For OVAL schedules to complete successfully, Java JRE version 16 or older should be available on the target system.
As an alternative to Java JRE for older Java security fixes, Amazon Corretto 16 is recommended. For reference please see: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/corretto/latest/corretto-16-ug/what-is-corretto-16.html

Additional Information
This does not impact Windows systems as a compatible Java runtime for Windows endpoints is bundled for OVAL scans.
