Description
AD LDS backups complete successfully, but the backup size is too small, and contains no data. -
Cause
This can be caused when the AD LDS VSS writer on the target is missing.
It is not known why this writer may be missing. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND
On the AD LDS host, open an elevated command prompt, and run the following command:
vssadmin list writers
There should be an entry that looks similar to "ADAM (serviceName) Writer".
If this is missing, try to restart the AD LDS Service(s).
This is usually enough to re-create the writer.STATUS
Enhancement request number ADO-236423 has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release of Recovery Manager for Active Directory.
This will address the lack of proper status messaging when the AD LDS writer is missing, as backups should present a "Warning" or "Failure", instead of a "Success" message when this issue is present. -
