Resolution
After you download the OS X Mavericks 10.9, Yosemite 10.10 or El Capitan 10.11 installer app, you can use the K2000 Media Manager to browse to and select the installer app to create the NetBoot Environment. Creating a 10.10 Netboot Environment requires approximately 25GB of free space on the workstation, whereas creating a 10.11 Netboot Environment requires approximately 45GB.
Note: The Mac OS X Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan installer app do not require creating a USB boot disk for the image.
Create the NetBoot environment on a device running the same version of the operating system as the NetBoot environment you are making.
Creating the Netboot Environment
1. Connect the latest Mac device in your environment to the App Store to download the OS X El Capitan, Yosemite, or Mavericks installer app.
2. Verify that the OS X installer app downloaded to the Application folder.
You can also download the installer app to a USB device or a different location to use as a backup.
3. From the K2000 appliance, download the K2000 Media Manager Mac application and enter the K2000 Hostname, Source Media Name, and in the Source Media Path field, click Browse to select OS X Mavericks installer app or the Yosemite installer app to upload the source media to the K2000.
4. Click Open.
5. Enter a NetBoot Password and confirm the Password.
This password will be used to login to the netboot environment.
6 Click Start Build and the NetBoot environment uploads to the K2000 appliance.
7. Set the new environment as the default NetBoot environment and enable the NetBoot server.
Set the default NetBoot environment and enable the NetBoot server after you create the NetBoot environment
1. Go to the K2000 appliance and click Settings to display the Control Panel, then click General Settings to display the General Settings page.
2. Select the name of the Mac OS X environment to be default.
*Note: In 3.7SP2, the 10.11 NetBoot Environment takes up approximately 17.5GB of space. However, the entire environment is not downloaded in order to boot. The client mounts the disk image over NFS, so it only grabs the part of the image that it needs. It is planned to resolve this issue in a future version.
Enable the NetBoot server
1. Go to the K2000 appliance and click Settings to display the Control Panel, then click Network Settings to display
the Network Settings page.2. Select the Enable the NetBoot server (for Mac OS X clients) check box.
3. Click Save.
Capture the Mac 10.9, 10.10 or 10.11 system image
1. Boot the target device in to the NetBoot environment to display the K2000 Imaging Utility, which enables you to capture the image as a system image for deployment.
2. Select Capture image.
3. In Image Name, enter a name to identify the image on the K2000 as a Mac image.
4. Select the appropriate volume to capture. Typically, the volume is Macintosh® HD.
5. Select Capture Apple ASR format Image if you wish to capture the image in the Mac native image format. Leaving it unticked will create a KImage.
6. Select Start Capture.
7. Click OK.
The Capture Finished prompt appears, and the appliance displays the image on the System Images page.
8. Select the image. You can add pre-installation and post-installation tasks to customize the image before deployment.
