When extracting a backup using Recovery Manager for Active directory, the below error may occur:
"Version of log files is not compatible with Jet version."
This issue can occur when extracting a backup which comes from a domain controller which is a different version of Windows than what Recovery Manager is on. For example, extracting a Windows 2008 backup on Windows 2003, or vice versa.
When extracting an Active Directory or AD LDS (ADAM) database from backup, Recovery Manager may replay the log files extracted along with the database in order to bring the database to a consistent state.
To replay the log files, Recovery Manager requires specific dynamic link libraries (DLLs) supplied with the Windows operating system.
The problem in question occurs in case Recovery Manager cannot find the correct version of the necessary DLLs.
Determine if the Domain Controller is a 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System
Source FOLDER (Select One)
If the Server (Domain Controller) being backed up is running a 32-bit edition of Windows, copy the Esent.dll file from %Windir%\System32
If the Server (Domain Controller) being backed up is running a 64-bit edition of Windows, copy the Esent.dll file from %Windir%\Syswow64
DESTINATION FOLDER
Copy the Esent.dll file from the Domain Controller being backed up to the Recovery Manager or Recovery Manager Forest Edition installation folder (on the RMAD server itself).
The default installation folder for Recovery Manager is %ProgramFiles%\Quest Software\Recovery Manager for Active Directory.
The default installation folder for Recovery Manager Forest Edition is %ProgramFiles%\Quest Software\Recovery Manager for Active Directory Forest Edition.
Note: If you are trying to restore using a backup from a Windows 2016 DC, the RMAD server has to be installed on Windows Server 2016. The above workaround does not apply to Windows 2016 DC backups.
Note: RMAD(FE) 9.0 and later now require that the RMAD server have the same or higher OS version as the DCs being backed up to ensure the Online Restore Wizard functions correctly.
