After implementing a strip attachment policy in Archive Manager. When a user tries to open a stripped attachment through OWA the attachment is seen as 'Attachments.htm'.
When attachments.htm is opened the following message is received from Internet Explorer.
This type of attachment must be saved to disk. Right-click the link, and then click Save Target As to save the attachment.
This is due to the default attachment direct file access security settings that exist in OWA. By default .htm files can only be downloaded and not run from the web browser.
To enable users can access the attachment, change the following settings in OWA.
1. Open Exchange Management Console
2. Under Server configuration select Client Access
3. In the middle pane select the Client Access server that is providing the OWA website
4. In the bottom middle pane highlight the 'owa(Default Web Site)', right-click and choose properties
Depending on how users access OWA this may have to be done for both Public Computer File Access and Private Computer File Access
5. Select the Public Computer File Access tab and under 'Direct file access' click on Customize.
6. Click on the 'Allow' button on the next screen.
7. Type .htm in the box at the top and hit the add button.
8. Click OK to close the Allow list and close out of the Exchange Management Console.
On the users machine log out of OWA and close the web browser.
Open the OWA site again and open the attachment in the email to test.
