How to file level restore directly to a Linux host - (video) (4047255)

By only using the vRanger FLR wizard you are only able to restore to a Windows host. Typically you will then copy the file from the Windows host to the target Linux host.

By using the default method of Linux FLR, you will lose any permissions on the restored file/folders.

By default Windows cannot access/read native Linux file systems. Windows also cannot retain Linux permissions on files/folders that are copied to it.

1. Launch FLR Restore GUI and choose a file to restore. This is important because this will open a connection to the Linux VA and provide the information you will need for the next step.
2. From the vRanger host open a command prompt and run "net use" to view the CIFS connection to the Linux VA. You should see the connection using the following format: \\VA_IP\vzmount.
3. Use that connection to map a drive on the vRanger host. You can use the net use command to do this. (net use R: \\VA_IP\vzmount)
4. Launch a SCP utility such as WinSCP and connect to the remote Linux host.
5. In the SCP utility, change directories to the newly mapped drive and restore the files/folders needed to the remote Linux host. (Choose the appropriate transfer mode to make sure the file is not corrupted in the transfer process)
6. After the file transfer is complete, disconnect the mapped drive and close the vRanger FLR window.
