Error Message: API Call failed with message: An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machin
Description
When attempting to run a Quiesced backup of an Exchange server you may receive an error indicatiing the snapshot failed.
Resolution
There are several causes/resolutions for this issue. Two common issues are:
The Exchange server Windows System Event Logs contain VSS Writer errors indicating insufficient resources available. Adding more memory or CPU to the VM can resolve this.
The Exchange server Windows Application Event logs contain Warnings from the Exchange IS that information stores are already in a quiesced state. This can be caused by another application, such as BackupExec on NTBACKUP, performing a backup of the Exchange Information stores. To resolve this either cancel running the other backup or change the schedule.
