Description
vRanger has recently been upgraded vRanger to version 5.2.3 or above and now backups are failing with the following error "snapshot hardware configuration mismatch Please commit all open snapshots before continuing backup" on all VMs located on ESX 3.5 hosts. All other VMs residing on ESX 4.0 and 4.1 backup just fine.

Cause
ESX(i) 3.5 is no longer supported in vRanger above vRanger 5.2.1.

Resolution
Installing vRanger 5.2.1 on a different server to backup VMs located on ESX 3.5 should resolve this issue.
