We are wanting to backup some VMs that have Spanning Volumes but exclude the Disk.
Cause
These are large and we don't need to protect them.
Resolution
In vRanger GUI, select the Backup Job to Edit or Create a new one.
When you create a backup job for one server, the rule tells vRanger which disks to back up for that server. When you create a job for multiple servers, however, the rule determines which disks are backed up for every server. For more details please refer to this Document.
In the Hard Disk Inclusion window, vRanger will see the disks from VMware's perspective, not from the OS' so it wouldn't indicate or identify which disks are part of the spanning volume in the Backup Wizard. You just need to Uncheck the Disks in question, i.e. Out of 5 disks, disks #2 and #4 makes up the Spanning Volume, so you'll uncheck those and keep #1, #3 and #5 included.
Complete the Backup Wizard with your preferences.
Note that Snapshots will still be created for all the disks. For more details, please review this KB Article.
