To check for the existence of snapshots use the vSphere client to browse to the datastore where the vm is located. In the vm's directory look for the existance of files named similar to vmname-00000x.vmdk . These indicate snapshots exist on the vm. To consolidate these snapshots do the following:
1. In the vSphere client select the VM
2. Right click and select Snapshot>Take Snapshot (be sure that Memory and Quiescing are not selected)
3. Once snapshot is complete right click then Snapshot>Snapshot Manager>Delete All
Recheck for snapshot files. If they still exist creating a Clone of the VM is another way to consolidate the snapshots.
1. In the vSphere client select the VM
2. Right click and Clone
