vRanger Hyper-V backups are performed using the direct-to-target architecture. Depending on how the Hyper-V host is connected to the repository, this can result in network backups or LAN-Free backups.
To configure LAN Free Hyper-V backups:
Provision storage to be used as a repository within your SAN environment.
Presented this provisioned storage to the Hyper-V server.
Configure the provisioned storage within your Hyper-V server.
Format the provisioned storage if necessary.
Create a Share within the new drive for the vRanger server to access.
Add the newly created share as a repository within vRanger.
Configure your backup task to use this newly created repository.
For backing up Hyper-V virtual machines, vRanger uses the Hyper-V backup agent that transmits backup data directly to the repository. You should no longer see any backup traffic go over the network.
Note: This repository should be configured so that the LUN can be easily presented to another machine or directly to the vRanger host if a full restore of the source server is necessary.
