The system event logs may display the following error repeatedly:
“Log write failed for device \Device\HarddiskVolume1 (drive ?). The failure status code is the last word of the data.”
Source: AAVolFlt
Task Category: Volume Filter Driver
This error occurs when the AAVolFlt driver, used by Rapid Recovery 6, attempts to write to the change log files stored in each volume's hidden "System Volume Information" folder. These logs are automatically managed and truncated during backup operations to prevent excessive growth.
The error indicates that the volume filter driver cannot write to at least one change log file. This issue typically arises when a volume has no available free space.
Identify the Affected Volume
Determine which volume has 0% free space by checking the disk properties or using tools like Disk Management.
Free Up Space
Create free space on the affected volume by deleting unnecessary files or moving data to another volume.
System Reserved Partition (If Applicable)
If the affected volume is the System Reserved Partition (SRP), follow the instructions in KB 4033577 to clear out log files from the partition safely.
Verify Resolution
Once free space is available, the volume filter driver should be able to write to the log files, resolving the error messages.
Additional Troubleshooting
If the error persists despite sufficient free space, remove the machine from protection in the Rapid Recovery Core console and add it back. This action will initiate a new base image for protection
