Run application deployments without fileshare clientdrop (4237587)

Instead of using KACE SDA clientdrop fileshare, use PETEMP.

By default, PETEMP is mapped at T drive in Mid-Level Tasks, so this can be used to copy files to the client machines, without having to create a Post-Installation Task, to map the drive exposing passwords.

This article assumes the user understands batch scripting.

The scripts provided in this article are shared as a courtesy to our customers, for the demonstration.
Also, these scripts were tested in a controlled environment. Quest KACE is not responsible for workability or functionality under certain circumstances. KACE does not support modifications nor usage.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is used in this example. The installation plan and parameters are to be considered by the customer when adapting the scripts, based on the application deployment.

Step 1

1. If the installer and dependencies are zipped. Extract them to a folder. (in the example below, the files were exacted to temp/) And copy the folder with the extracted files.
   
2. From another Windows file explorer, map the following path: \\SDA_IP\petemp
   And paste the folder copied from step 1.1 (see the example below)
   
   

Step 2

1. From KACE SDA administrative console, create a script to copy the folder and the files from PETEMP, to C drive in the client machine.
   Go to Library | Mid-Level Tasks | Add BAT Script...
2. In the BAT Script field, add the following script. (plan for changes as needed)
   
   _{@ECHO OFF
   MKDIR C:\temp
   CLS
   XCOPY "T:\temp" “C:\temp”
   CLS
   EXIT}
   
   
   
3. From KACE SDA administrative console, go to Library | Post-Installation Tasks | Add BAT Script Task…
4. In the BAT Script field, call the EXE from C drive. (add parameters as needed)
   
   i.e-1
   _{C:\temp\setup.exe /configure C:\temp\O365.xml}
   
   i.e-2
   _{CD C:\temp
   start /WAIT C:\temp\setup.exe /sAll /rs /msi EULA_ACCEPT=YES}
   
   
5. Another Post-Installation task can be created to clean up the information from the C drive.

   @RD /S /Q “C:\temp”
   EXIT}
