Bandwidth Usage Baseline Deviation

The Bandwidth Usage Baseline Deviation alarm becomes active when the amount of data that flows in any of the possible directions (arriving to SQL Azure or sent from SQL Azure to either on-premise applications or other Azure-based applications) exceeds a predefined threshold.
When this alarm becomes active, the representation of data flows from and to on-premise applications and cloud applications to the Database pane on the Summary page changes its color to indict a possible issue.
When this alarm is invoked, look at:
•
The Bandwidth Usage panel on the Activity drilldown, to see the amount of external (outside Azure) and internal data transfer, and compare it to the baseline set for both incoming and outgoing data flows.
•
The Estimated Bandwidth Usage Cost section on the Cost drilldown, to see used bandwidth size for the specified time range.

Connection Time

The Connection Time alarm is invoked when the total connection time to all sessions of a specific instance, or the connection time to a specific database, exceeds a predefined threshold.
This alarm is reflected in the following locations:
•
Instance-related alarms—on the Alarms column of the Databases table, under Dashboards > Databases > Databases.
Clicking the Further Investigation pane leads to a link that allows drilling down to the Activity > Sessions panel.

Database-related alarms—in either of the following locations:
•
The Alarms column of the Databases table.
Clicking the Further Investigation pane leads to a link that allows drilling down to the Summary screen.
•
The Alarms section of the Summary screen.

Instance/Database Unresponsive

The Instance/Database Unresponsive alarm is invoked when the SQL Azure instance or one of its databases are not available.
This alarm is reflected in the following locations:
•
Databases table—under Dashboards > Databases > Databases.
Unresponsive instances and databases are indicated as n/a (non available) under the Workload column.
•
The Summary > Database pane > Availability field.

Response Time

The Response Time alarm becomes active when the execution time of the Response Time SQL exceeds a threshold.
Response time is the full time (in milliseconds) it has taken a query (select 1, by default) to get from the application to SQL Azure and back. Every time a real-time sampled interval starts (by default: 20 seconds), a query is sent and its response time value is displayed. Any value higher than 20 ms may indicate a performance issue, which should then be investigated to detect its source, identify the possible bottleneck, and take correcting measures.
The Response Time SQL is a user-defined Transact-SQL batch that can be used for indicating application response time.
To change the query used for determining response time, edit the Response time section in the Agent properties.

NOTE: Only members of the Foglight Administrator group can change the SQL query used for measuring SQL Azure response time.
