Edge Transport is installed on a stand alone server that is not a member of the Active Directory® domain and routes mail between the Exchange organization and the Internet. It provides protection against spam and viruses. |

Hub Transport is the mail routing server responsible for routing mail within the Exchange organization. |

Client Access is the server that users connect to using their mail client, mobile device or web browser. The Client Access role is installed in every Exchange organization and every Active Directory site that has the Mailbox server role installed. |

Mailbox which holds the Exchange databases where the user mailboxes and public folders reside. |

Unified Messaging is responsible for merging your VOIP infrastructure with your Exchange system. |
