Removing the power supply unit blank

Install the power supply unit (PSU) blank only in the second PSU bay.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.

If you are installing a second power supply unit (PSU), remove the PSU blank in the bay by pulling the blank outward.

CAUTION: To ensure proper system cooling, the PSU blank must be installed in the second PSU bay in a non-redundant configuration. Remove the PSU blank only if you are installing a second PSU.

Installing the power supply unit blank

Install the power supply unit (PSU) blank only in the second PSU bay.

Align the power supply unit blank with the power supply unit slot and push it into the power supply unit slot until it clicks into place.

Removing an AC power supply unit

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. CAUTION: The system needs one power supply unit (PSU) for normal operation. On power-redundant systems, remove and replace only one PSU at a time in a system that is powered on.
* 
NOTE: You may have to unlatch and lift the optional cable management arm if it interferes with the power supply unit (PSU) removal. For information about the cable management arm, see the system’s rack documentation.
1.
Disconnect the power cable from the power source and from the PSU you intend to remove, and then remove the cables from the strap.
2.
Press the release latch and slide the PSU out of the chassis by using the PSU handle.

Installing an AC power supply unit

NOTE: The maximum output power (shown in watts) is listed on the PSU label.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.

For systems that support redundant power supply units (PSUs), ensure that both the PSUs are of the same type and have the same maximum output power
3.
If installed, remove the PSU blank.

Slide the new PSU into the chassis until the PSU is fully seated and the release latch snaps into place.

NOTE: If you unlatched the cable management arm, relatch it. For information about the cable management arm, see the rack documentation of your system.
2.
Connect the power cable to the PSU and plug the cable into a power outlet.
* 
CAUTION: When connecting the power cable, secure the cable with the strap.
* 
NOTE: When installing, hot swapping, or hot-adding a new PSU, wait for 15 seconds for the system to recognize the PSU and determine its status. The PSU redundancy may not occur until discovery is complete. Wait until the new PSU is discovered and enabled before you remove the other PSU. The PSU status indicator turns green to signify that the PSU is functioning properly.
