Granting privileges and quota to a user account

Granting privileges and quota to a user account
To grant user privileges and job and media quota for a user account:

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, click Privileges and Quotas.
For local users, select the Users tab, and for groups, select the Groups tab.

Grant appropriate user privileges and job and media quota.

User Privileges

To grant or revoke user privileges, do the following:

•
Grant all privileges: To grant all privileges to a user account, select the User is granted ALL privileges check box.
•
Grant specific privileges: To grant specific privileges, select the privileges in the Denied list, and click Add. The selected privileges are moved to the Granted list.
(To select consecutive items, hold down the Shift key while clicking with the mouse button; to select non-consecutive items, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking with the mouse button.)
To revoke privileges, select the privilege in the Granted list, and click Remove.

Assign presets: To assign a predefined or user‑defined preset, select the Preset in the Privileges Presets list, and click Load. A predefined Preset can be identified by a trailing ♦ symbol in its name.
When you assign a Preset to a user, the user is granted all the permissions included in that set. The selected privileges are moved to the Granted list.
You can assign only one Preset. If you load a new Preset, the Granted list is overwritten with the new set of privileges.

Media Quota

To set the media quota for a user, configure the applicable option:

•
Infinite: This option is selected by default. To allow access to infinite amount of media, use this option.
•
Up to: To set the quota limit, select this option. Type or select the amount of media that is available to the user. The usage quota is specified in terabytes.
When the quota limit is reached, the jobs submitted by the user fail. The media usage amount is calculated from the existing records in the Media Database. When a saveset is retired, the amount of media used by it is added to the available pool.

 

Job Quota

To set the job quota for a user, configure the applicable option:

•
Infinite: This option is selected by default. To allow access to infinite number of jobs, use this option.
•
Up to: To set the quota limit, select this option. Type or enter the maximum number of jobs the user can perform.
When the quota limit is reached, the user is not allowed to submit any other job. The number of jobs performed by a user is derived from the existing records in the Scheduler Database. For any deleted job definitions, a user can submit an equal number of new jobs.

Click Apply to save the group membership information for the user, and return to the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page.

Setting up user notification profile

Setting up user notification profile
To set up notification profile for a user account:

On Manage User Accounts and User Groups, click Notification Profile.
For local users, select the Users tab, and for groups, select the Groups tab.

In the events table, open the event class and event type, and select the notification method that you want to use.

E-mail

Select this method to send an email notification to the user when the event occurs. The user notifications are delivered to the email ID configured in the E-mail-1 box on the User Details page.

Windows Pop-up Message

Select this method to display pop-up messages to the user when the event occurs. This method is only supported on Windows-based clients. The pop-up messages are not displayed if a firewall or any other tool is configured to block such messages. The pop-up message notification method is not available in the recent versions of Windows.

Click Apply to save the user details, and return to the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page.

Modifying a user account

To modify a user account:

In the Navigation pane, click Users and Groups.

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, select the user account, and click Modify Details.

Modify the user settings, as necessary. For more information, see, Configuring user details.

Click Apply to save the user details.

Deleting a user account

To delete a user account:

In the Navigation pane, click Users and Groups.

On the Manage User Accounts and User Groups page, select the user account, and click Delete.

In the confirmation dialog box, click Delete to remove the user account from the NetVault Backup Server.
 
* 
NOTE: The admin and default user accounts cannot be deleted.
