Finalizing and submitting a job

To finalize and submit a backup job

Use the Schedule, Target Storage, and Advanced Options lists to configure any additional required options.

Click Save or Save & Submit, whichever is applicable.
 
 
*TIP: To run a job that you have already created and saved, select Manage Job Definitions in the Navigation pane, select the applicable job, and click Run Now.

Backing up Oracle ACFS

Oracle Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System (Oracle ACFS) extends the Oracle ASM functionality to support non-database files such as Oracle binaries, trace files, alert logs, report files, and other application data files.
The non-database files cannot be backed up using RMAN, but you can use the Dell NetVault Backup Plug-in for FileSystem (Plug-in for FileSystem) to back up the data stored in an Oracle ACFS volume.
To use Plug-in for FileSystem to back up data

Mount the ACFS volume.

In the Navigation pane, click Create Backup Job.
You can also start the wizard from the Guided Configuration link. In the Navigation pane, click Guided Configuration. On the NetVault Configuration Wizard page, click Create backup jobs.

In Job Name, specify a name for the job.
Assign a descriptive title that lets you easily identify the job for monitoring its progress or restoring data. The job name can contain alphanumeric and non-alphanumeric characters, but it cannot include non-English characters. On Linux, the names can have a maximum of 200 characters. On Windows, there is no length restriction. However, a maximum of 40 characters is recommended on all platforms.

Click Create New next to the Selections list.

On the NetVault Backup Selections page, enter a name for the set in the Backup Selection Set box, and then open the NetVault Backup Client that is configured as the Oracle Database Server.

In the list of plug-ins, open Plug-in for FileSystem.

Select the ACFS volume, or open the ACFS node and select the required items.

Configure the remaining backup options.

Flashback Database – an overview

Introduced in Oracle 10g, Flashback Database lets you rewind an Oracle database to a previous time to correct problems caused by logical data corruptions or user errors as long as the datafiles are intact. Flashback Database is not true media recovery because it does not involve restoring physical datafiles. Flashback Database is preferable to using the RESTORE and RECOVER commands in some cases because it is faster and easier and does not require restoring the whole database.

Flashback Logs
Flashback Database has its own logging mechanism. Flashback Logs are generated and stored in the FRA. After Flashback Database is enabled, altered datafile data blocks are copied into the Flashback Logs. These data blocks can be used later to reconstruct the datafile contents. Because Flashback Logs are captured at regular time intervals, the data blocks restored from the Flashback Logs are those stored most immediately prior to the desired target time. After Flashback Logs are applied, the Redo Log is reapplied to Complete Recovery to the target time.
