Welcome to Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack

Using the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack, Foglight can connect to VMware vCenter server and manage its virtual machines. You can use the actions of this ActionPack to build workflows, remediate alerts, and control virtual resources managed by VMware vCenter.

 

These Release Notes cover the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds, and other important information about the 5.6.3.8 release of the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack. Review all sections before starting the installation.

 


New in this Release

This 5.6.3.8 release of the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack accompanies the 5.6.3.8 release of Foglight for Automation, and the 8.8.5 release of Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition. It does not include any resolved issues.

Known Issue

APVMVC-543 The Clone VM action supports only standalone servers. It does not support instances where the host belongs to a cluster.
APVMVC-537 When executing the Edit VM action to change a VM's NIC, an error can occur causing the NIC to be set to NULL even though the workflow finishes with state "Success".

Before using this Cartridge you must specify the access credentials for a VMware host and any virtual machines that you want to manage.

  1. Open the VMware -> Automation Configuration dashboard.
  2. From the list, select the host that you want to work with.
  3. Click Assign Credentials.
  4. Specify the Username and Password for the selected host.

The Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack 5.6.3.8 requires the Automation-Core-5_6_3_8.car and the ActionPack-Runtime-5_6_3_8.car files. Foglight for Automation and all ActionPacks must have the same version.

Final Browser Support Notice

Support for the Internet Explorer (IE) 6 browser has been discontinued.

 


Product Licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

The Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack is covered by the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition license. A separate additional license may be required for installation in the base Foglight product.

 

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

Welcome to Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack

Using the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack, Foglight can connect to VMware vCenter server and manage its virtual machines. You can use the actions of this ActionPack to build workflows, remediate alerts, and control virtual resources managed by VMware vCenter.

 

These Release Notes cover the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds, and other important information about the 5.6.3.8 release of the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack. Review all sections before starting the installation.

 


New in this Release

This 5.6.3.8 release of the Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack accompanies the 5.6.3.8 release of Foglight for Automation, and the 8.8.5 release of Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition. It does not include any resolved issues.

APVMVC-543 The Clone VM action supports only standalone servers. It does not support instances where the host belongs to a cluster.
APVMVC-537 When executing the Edit VM action to change a VM's NIC, an error can occur causing the NIC to be set to NULL even though the workflow finishes with state "Success".

Before using this Cartridge you must specify the access credentials for a VMware host and any virtual machines that you want to manage.

  1. Open the VMware -> Automation Configuration dashboard.
  2. From the list, select the host that you want to work with.
  3. Click Assign Credentials.
  4. Specify the Username and Password for the selected host.

System Requirements

See the Foglight System Requirements and Platform Support Guide for information about system requirements.

The Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack 5.6.3.8 requires the Automation-Core-5_6_3_8.car and the ActionPack-Runtime-5_6_3_8.car files. Foglight for Automation and all ActionPacks must have the same version.

Final Browser Support Notice

Support for the Internet Explorer (IE) 6 browser has been discontinued.

 


Product Licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

The Foglight for VMware vCenter ActionPack is covered by the Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition license. A separate additional license may be required for installation in the base Foglight product.

 

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.
