Configuring the agent credentials

Prerequisite:
•
Assigning credentials to select hosts
To configure credentials for your agent:
1
In the Configure Credential wizard, do one of the followings actions:
•
Create a new credential for this resource. Select Create a new credential option and click Next.

On the Credential Type page, select the credential’s type from the available options. The list of credential types may differ for different agent types. Click Next.

On the Credential Properties page, enter the required properties. The fields may vary depending on the credential type selected in Step a. Click Next.
c
On the Credential Name and Lockbox page, select a lockbox to contain this credential. A lockbox can be used to group credentials for access and/or security. For small Foglight installations, using the default System lockbox should be sufficient. Click Next.

NOTE: If the lockbox is password protected and is not released to the target Foglight Agent Manager, you get the lockbox password field on the last page of the wizard.

On the Policies page, define policies for this credential (optional). Click Next.

On the Resource Mapping (Advanced) page, optionally add, edit, or remove resource mapping records. Click Next.

On the Summary page, review the settings, enter the lockbox password (if required), and click Finish.
A dialog box displays and confirms that the new credential was created. Click Close. The new credential also appears in the list of credentials available for your resource.

Change an existing credential for this resource. Select Use an existing credential and click Next.

On the Credential page, select an existing credential to contain this resource. Click Next.

On the Resource Mapping (Advanced) page, optionally add, edit, or remove resource mapping records. Click Next.

On the Summary page, review the settings, enter the lockbox password (if required), and click Finish.
A dialog box displays and confirms that the credential was updated. Click Close.
The Configure Credential wizard closes and the credential settings are saved.

Configuring the scanning list

To configure the Scanning List settings:

Click Edit at the top of the table.
The Seed Host Editor provides the following information:
•
Hosts already included in the Scanning List.
•
Matching Method used for identifying the hosts in this list.
•
Processes running on the hosts included in this list, which are monitored for dependency data.
•
Ports opened on the hosts included in this list, which are monitored for dependency data.

To add a host or group of hosts to the Scanning List, click New.
a
Select a matching method from the list (IPRange, IPAddress, or HostName).
b
In the text box, specify the IP range, IP address, or host name for the new host or group of hosts, according to the matching method specified in Step a.
c
To save the settings, click OK.
The host is added to the list of hosts to be scanned by this agent.

To modify an existing host, in that host’s row, click the Hosts or the Matching Method column and change any settings. Click OK.

To delete an existing host or group of hosts from the Scanning List, select the check box at the beginning of that row, and click Remove.
The selected host is deleted from the list.

To limit the processes being monitored when collecting dependency data for a host, click the Processes column for that host.

IMPORTANT: If no processes are specified, all processes are monitored.
In the Process Editor dialog box, do one of the following operations, then click OK to save the settings.
•
To define a new process, click New process. In the Regex Pattern field specify the regular expression based on which specific processes would be included in or excluded from the process pattern. Click OK.
•
To remove a process, select the check box associated with that process and click Remove.
•
To modify the settings for an existing process, click the Pattern or the Condition column, update the fields as necessary, and click OK.

To limit the ports being monitored when collecting dependency data for a host, click the Ports column for that host.

IMPORTANT: If no ports are specified, all ports are monitored.
In the Port Editor dialog box, do one of the following operations, then click OK to save the settings.
•
To define a new port, click New port. Specify the Port Range that should be included or excluded from scanning. Click OK.
•
To remove a port from the list, select the check box associated with that port and click Remove.
•
To modify the settings for a port, click the Port or the Condition column, modify the port range or condition, and click OK.

To save the changes made to the agent’s settings, click Save.

Configuring the referenced list

To configure the Referenced List settings:

Click Edit at the top of the table.
The Referenced Host Editor provides the following information:
•
Hosts that should be scanned by this agent only when they are referenced by the hosts included in the scanning list.
•
Matching Method used for identifying the hosts in this list.
•
Processes running on the hosts included in this list.
•
Ports opened on the hosts included in this list.

To add a host or group of hosts to the Referenced List, click New.
a
Select a matching method from the list (IPRange, IPAddress, or Regex).
b
In the text box, specify the host’s IP range, IP address, or regular expression, according to the matching method specified in Step a.
c
To save the settings, click OK.
The host is added to the list of referenced hosts.

To modify an existing host, in that host’s row, click the Hosts or the Matching Method column, change the settings as needed, then click OK.

To delete an existing host or group of hosts from the list, select the check box at the beginning of that row, and click Remove.
The selected host is deleted from the list.

To modify the settings for a port, click the Port or the Condition column, modify the port range or condition, and click OK.

Configuring the excluded list

To configure the Excluded List settings:

Click Edit at the top of the table.
When defining the excluded list for a specific agent, the Excluded Host Editor dialog box appears. When defining the global excluded list for all agents in your environment, the Global Exclude Host Editor dialog box appears. It provides the following information:
•
Hosts that should always be excluded from the scanning.
•
Matching Method used for identifying the hosts in this list.

To add a host or group of hosts to the Excluded List, click New.
a
Select a matching method from the list (IPRange, IPAddress, or Regex).
b
In the text box, specify the host’s IP range, IP address, or regular expression, according to the matching method specified in Step a.
c
To save the settings, click OK.
The host is added to the list of hosts to be excluded from scanning.

To modify and existing host, in that host’s row, click the Hosts or the Matching Method column, change the settings as needed, then click OK.

To delete an existing host or group of hosts from the list, select the check box at the beginning of that row, and click Remove.
