Your DR6300 system is 2U rack server that supports up to two Intel Xeon E5-2680 v4 processors, up to 24 DIMMs, and twelve 3.5-inch hard drives and 2 optional 2.5-inch back-accessible hard drives for the operating system.

Front panel features and indicators

The front panel provides access to the features available on the front of the server, such as the power button, NMI button, system identification tag, system identification button, and USB and VGA ports. The diagnostic LEDs or the LCD panel is prominently on the front panel. The hot swappable hard drives are accessible from the front panel.

Item 1 is the system identification button on the front and back panels, that can be used to locate a particular system within a rack. When one of these buttons is pressed, the LCD panel on the front and the system status indicator on the back flashes until one of the buttons is pressed again. Press to toggle the system ID on or off. If the system stops responding during POST, press and hold the system ID button for more than five seconds to enter BIOS progress mode. To reset iDRAC (if not disabled in F2 iDRAC set up) press and hold the button for more than 15 seconds. Item 2 is the power button. Enables you to know the power status of the system. The power indicator turns on when the system power is on. The power button controls the power supply output to the system. Item 3 is the NMI button, that is used to troubleshoot software and device driver errors when running certain operating systems. This button can be pressed using the end of a paper clip. Use this button only if directed to do so by qualified support personnel or by the operating system documentation. Item 4 is the information tag, a slide-out label panel that allows you to record system information such as Service Tag, NIC, and MAC address, as per your need. Item 5 indicates the hard drives, you can have up to twelve 3.5-inch hot-swappable hard drives. Item 6 is the USB management port/iDRAC Direct port. The USB management port can function as a regular USB port or provide access to the iDRAC Direct features. Item 8 is Quick Sync, that indicates a Quick Sync enabled system. The Quick Sync feature is optional and requires a Quick Sync bezel. This feature allows management of the system using mobile devices. This feature aggregates hardware or firmware inventory and various system level diagnostic and error information that can be used in troubleshooting the system. Power button

Enables you to know the power status of the system. The power indicator turns on when the system power is on. The power button controls the power supply output to the system.

NOTE: On ACPI-compliant operating systems, when the power button is used to shut down the system, the operating system performs a graceful shut down the system power is turned off.

NMI button

NMI icon

Enables you to troubleshoot software and device driver errors when running certain operating systems. This button can be pressed by using the end of a paper clip.

Information tag

Contains system information such as service tag, NIC, MAC address for your reference. The information tag is a slide-out label panel.

Enables you to connect a display to the system.

Quick Sync (optional)

Indicates a Quick Sync enabled system. The Quick Sync feature is optional and needs a Quick Sync bezel. This feature allows management of the system by using mobile devices. This feature aggregates hardware or firmware inventory and various system level diagnostic and error information that can be used in troubleshooting the system. For more information, see the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller User’s Guide at Dell.com/idracmanuals.

Back panel features

The back panel provides access to the features available on the back of the server, such as the system identification button, power supply sockets, cable management arm connectors, iDRAC storage media, NIC ports, USB and VGA ports. Most of the expansion card ports can be accessed from the back panel. The hot swappable power supply units, and if installed, the rear accessible hard drives are accessible from the back panel.

It is a dedicated management port. The port is available for use only if the iDRAC8 Enterprise license is installed on your system. Item 4 is PCIe expansion card slot, that Enables you to connect three low profile PCIe expansion cards. Item 5 is serial connector, that Enables you to connect a serial device to the system. Item 6 is video connector, that Enables you to connect a VGA display to the system. Item 7 is USB ports (2), that Enables you to connect USB devices to the system. The ports are USB 3.0-compliant. Item 8 is PCIe expansion card slot that Enables you to connect up to four full height three-fourth length PCIe expansion cards. Item 9 are Ethernet connectors (4) that has four integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps NIC connectors or four integrated connectors and two integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps NIC connectors, two integrated 100 Mbps/1 Gbps/10 Gbps SFP+ connectors. Item 10 and 11 are power supply units (PSU1 and (PSU2) that supports 1100 W AC PSU. Item 12 is the SD vFlash card slot that Enables you to insert a vFlash media card. Item 13 is the rear hard drive slots that allow you to install up to two hot-swappable 2.5-inch hard drives

NOTE: No diagnostic indicators are lit when the system is turned off. To start the system, plug it into a working power source and press the power button.

Table 3. Diagnostic indicators

Item 1 is the health indicator, that indicates the health status of the system. The indicator turns solid blue if the system is turned on and in good health. The indicator flashes amber if the system is turned on or in standby, and if any issue occurs (for example, a failed fan or hard drive). Item 2 is the hard drive indicator, that flashes amber if an error occurs related to hard drive. Item 3 is the electrical indicator that flashes amber if an electrical error occurs (for example, voltage out of range, or a failed power supply unit or voltage regulator). Item 4 is the temperature indicator that flashes amber if a thermal error occurs (for example, a temperature out of range or fan failure). Item 5 is the memory indicator that flashes amber if a memory error occurs. Item 6 is the PCIe indicator that flashes amber if an error occurs related to PCIe card.

The indicator flashes amber:

When the system is turned on.

When the system is in standby.

If any error condition exists. For example, a failed fan, PSU, or a hard drive.

Check the System Event Log or system messages for the specific issue. For more information about error messages, see the Dell Event and Error Messages Reference Guide at Dell.com/openmanagemanuals > OpenManage software.

The POST process is interrupted without any video output due to invalid memory configurations. See the Getting help section.

Hard drive indicator

The indicator flashes amber if there is a hard drive error.

Check the System Event Log to determine the hard drive that has an error. Run the appropriate Online Diagnostics test. Restart the system and run embedded diagnostics (ePSA). If the hard drives are configured in a RAID array, restart the system and enter the host adapter configuration utility program.

The indicator flashes amber if the system experiences an electrical error (for example, voltage out of range, or a failed power supply unit (PSU) or voltage regulator).

Check the System Event Log or system messages for the specific issue. If it is due to a problem with the PSU, check the LED on the PSU. Reseat the PSU. If the problem persists, see the Getting help section.

Temperature indicator

The indicator flashes amber if the system experiences a thermal error (for example, the ambient temperature is out of range or fan failure).

Ensure that none of the following conditions exist:

•
A cooling fan has been removed or has failed.
•
System cover, cooling shroud, EMI filler panel, memory module blank, or back filler bracket is removed.
•
Ambient temperature is too high.
•
External airflow is obstructed.

Memory indicator

The indicator flashes amber if a memory error occurs.

Check the system event log or system messages for the location of the failed memory. Reseat the memory module. If the problem persists, see the Getting help section.
