Define and edit alert rules that Spotlight scans the SQL Server Error Log for. If Spotlight finds a match in the error log, an alarm is displayed on the Error Log button on the Spotlight Home Page.
To open the Error Log Entries dialog

Define and edit the alert rules that Spotlight scans the SQL Server Error Log for:

Select connection to configure |
Select the connection name to configure an individual connection. Select Default Settings to configure the default settings for all connections. |
Override the default settings |
Select to set the alert rules other than the default. Tip: Clear to return the selected connection to the default settings. |
Enable error log scanning |
Select to turn on error log scanning. Error log scanning is off by default. |
Alert Rule pane |
Select or clear each text string as appropriate. An alarm is raised when selected text strings are found in the SQL error log. |
Add |
Click to create a new alert rule. Type the text string Spotlight is to scan for in the SQL error log. Note: Do not enter the | character as part of the text string, as Spotlight uses this character to mark the end of the string. |
Edit |
Click to modify the selected alert rule. |
Delete |
Click to remove the selected alert rule from the list of defined rules. |
Copy |
Click to add a copy of the selected alert rule to the list. |
Enable All |
Click to enable all rules shown in the Alert Rule pane. |
Disable All |
Click to disable all rules shown in the Alert Rule pane. |
Note: Spotlight scans the error logs at the configured frequency. If you make changes to the alert rules it may take some time for changes to take effect. You can change the frequency in the Schedules dialog. See "Configure Scheduling" (page 1) for more information.
