To configure an alarm to ignore certain values

  1. Click Configure | Alarms.

  2. Choose one of the following from the connection list:
    • To configure the alarm for an individual connection, select the connection name.
    • To configure the alarm for all connections, select Default Settings.
    • To configure a Spotlight Diagnostic Server alarm, select Diagnostic Server.
  1. Select an alarm.
  2. Select Override the default settings for the alarm.
  3. Click values in the sentence Do not alarm for certain values in the lower pane.
  4. Select or type the value you want Spotlight to ignore when it raises alarms. You can use wildcard characters when specifying values to ignore. See the next section in this topic.
  5. Click Add.

Tip: To stop ignoring alarms for certain values, complete steps 1-7 in the procedure above. At step 8, select Delete.

Using Wildcard characters

You can use the following wildcards when specifying values to ignore:

*

Represents any string including the null string.

?

Represents any single character.

[]

Matches any one of the enclosed characters. A pair of characters separated by "–" matches any character lexically between the pair.

For example, type "Database*" in the value field to ignore a series of databases named "Database01" through to "Database99".

Notes

  • The exclusion list is not case sensitive. Therefore, both [a-z] and [A-Z] match any letters. For example, [a-z] and [A-Z] work equally.
  • “!” following “[“ is not treated as the special symbol that excludes following characters in the brackets, but treated as a single character “!”.
