Toad Data Point 5.3 - Release Notes

Get As Project

You can get a copy of a project that has been published to Intelligence Central and save it locally. When you use the Get as Project command to copy a project and open it when prompted, the project is added to your Project Manager window replacing your currently-loaded Project Manager file (.tpf). The project files themselves are saved to a location you specify.

Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

When a project is published to Intelligence Central, it is published as a Project Manager object . The Project Manager object can be one project or it can contain multiple projects. You can use the Get as project command to copy any user-defined folder from Intelligence Central, including a Project Manager object, a project sub-folder, or even a folder containing multiple Project Manager objects.

When you Get a published Project Manager object and open it when prompted, your current Project Manager is automatically saved as a file which can be opened again from the Project Manager toolbar.

To Get as Project from Intelligence Central

  1. In the Object Explorer, select a project and click , or right-click a project and select Operations | Get as Project.

Note: You can select any Project Manager object, any TIC or user-defined folder, even the "No folder assigned" folder to save locally as a project in Toad.

  2. In the Browse for Folder dialog, select a location in which to save the project files. If necessary, create a new folder to contain the files. Click OK.
  3. The project files are saved to the location you specified. Please note that the files themselves are copied from Intelligence Central and saved to disk in the specified location.

The non-file resources are saved and added to their respective panes/windows in Toad, for example, database connections, FTP connections, named SQL, and Toad Views.

  4. Toad prompts you to open the project. Click Yes to load the project into the Project Manager.

Note: If you do not open the project at this time, it does not appear in the list of projects in the Project Manager.

  5. To open a file or resource from a project in the Project Manager, right-click it and select Open. If the file contains connections that are not currently defined in your Connection/Navigation Manager or that require you to enter your credentials, the Connections dialog opens. Define a new connection or enter your credentials.

Note: If you Get a Toad file that was published as part of a project, and the file contains connections that are not currently defined in your Connection/Navigation Manager, the connections are not automatically defined for you. You must define a connection when the Connection dialog opens. This applies to all files except Import and Export templates and Query Builder files.

To Get (copy) a single file/resource from a project in Intelligence Central

  • In the Object Explorer, select the file/resource you want to Get and click .

To open a saved Project Manager file

  • Click and select the Project Manager file to open. The new Project Manager file replaces the current one in the Project Manager window.

Note: A .tpf file appears in this list only if it was opened in a current or previous Toad session.

Tip: When you get a project from Intelligence Central, a Project Manager file (.tpf) is created and stored in the same location you specified for the project files. If you do a Get as project on a TIC folder containing multiple projects, one .tpf file is created that includes the information for all the projects.
