What’s New in Active Administrator

Active Administrator® 8.8 is the latest patch release of Quest Software's complete solution for managing Microsoft Active Directory health, delegation, accounts, GPOs, recovery and security auditing, and certificate and DNS management. This document provides a highlight of these improvements.

NOTE:

The Active Directory Health module requires a license in addition to the license for Active Administrator.
•
Azure Active Directory is now Microsoft Entra ID.

As a result of ongoing research and development, and in response to customer feedback, the following enhancements have been made in this release of Active Administrator:

Security enhancements

Performance enhancements

Miscellaneous updates
•
System requirements updates

Security enhancements

•
Support for TLS 1.3 including an option to enable “Strict Encryption” for the SQL server connection.

Performance enhancements

•
Improved startup time of the ADS server.
•
Centralized the functionality of checking the database versions when connecting to the archive database.
•
Optimized the Active Directory backup and restore functionality to allow for better processing of out-of-order object restore operations. 
•
Updated all references of Azure AD Sync to Microsoft Entra Connect and improved how Microsoft Entra services are reported. References to services are now stored in a config file that can be changed if needed.

Miscellaneous updates

•
The DNS module is no longer available when only the AD Health license is applied.
