How to upgrade RMAD/RMADFE/RMADDRE from 10.x to 10.3 (or later) (4372177)

Supported versions for direct Upgrade

• These steps can be used to upgrade RMAD, RMADFE, RMADDRE for the following versions:
  • 10.0, 10.0.1, 10.1, 10.1.1, 10.2, 10.2.1, 10.2.2, 10.3, 10.3.1, 10.3.2

Process

1. Download the latest release of Recovery Manger for Active Directory:
   • RMAD
   • RMADFE
   • RMADDRE
2. Make a backup of the below 2 files:
   • C:\ProgramData\Quest\Recovery Manager for Active Directory\Backups.mdb
   • C:\ProgramData\Quest\Recovery Manager for Active Directory\RMAD.db3 (earlier versions it was named ERDiskAD.mdb)
3. NOTE: If you are upgrading RMADFE or RMADDRE it is highly recommended to have a backup of the Forest Recovery Project and the SQL Databases.
4. Install the latest release on top of the existing RMAD installation
5. If upgrading RMADFE or RMADDRE, ensure you open the Forest Recovery Project files as they may need to be updated
6. If you are using Pre-Installed Agents, upgrade the Agents on the DC’s by uninstalling the old version and installing the latest version
7. NOTE: For RMAD 10.1 and later, ensure you are using the Backup Agent version that is supplied with the release you are upgrading to
8. It is highly recommended to install the latest Maintenance Release after upgrading, if one exists.
9. This step and the next one applies only to RMAD DRE Secure Storage feature: 
   • If you are using the Secure Storage feature, it is recommended to upgrade the Secure Storage agent on the Secure Storage server to the same version. With a hardened Secure Storage server, RMAD does not automatically upgrade the agent and this must be completed with console (physical) access to the server.
   • NOTE: The Secure Storage server agent will continue to function when its version does not match the version of the RMAD console but any new functionality may not be available.
   • In the Secure Storage Servers pane, select the Secure Storage server. The current version of the agent installed will be displayed.
   • If the agent installed does not match the version of your RMAD installation, right-click the Secure Storage server that you want to manually export the setup package.
   • Click Export setup.
   • Copy the package, SecureStorageAgent.zip, to the existing Secure Storage server. This requires console (physical) access to the Secure Storage server.
   • Extract the package on the Secure Storage server and double-click the SecureStorageAgent.msi file to upgrade the agent.
   • A warning will be displayed. IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: This server is about to be hardened and all network connections to this server will be lost including Remote Desktop. Ensure you have physical access to this server and have an available method to access such as console access or serial access. Select YES to acknowledge you understand and are prepared for the Secure Storage server to be installed and hardened. Recovery Manager for Active Directory cannot undo this operation without physical access to the server.
   • NOTE: For quiet installation both the /qn switch and FORCE=true can be specified when launching the msi file from the command line.
   • The Storage Agent is installed and the server is hardened automatically. For more information on hardening, see the Hardening a Secure Storage server section of the User Guide under Getting Started | Secure Storage Server
10. During upgrade the Secure Storage server may be unhardened for a short period of time (seconds). To prevent temporary unhardening and before installing the new agent on the Secure Storage server, perform the following steps:
    • On the Secure Storage server, open a command prompt.
    • To retrieve the id for the current Quest Secure Storage agent, type and run: wmic product where "Name like 'Quest Secure Storage Agent'" get Name, Version, IdentifyingNumber
    • Using the returned id, type and execute the following: msiexec /x {Identifying Number} AUTO_UNHARDENING=FALSE

NOTE: RMAD 10.3 and later no longer ship with the RMAD Portal as it is being deprecated

NOTE: Recovery Manager for Active Directory 10.3 no longer uses SQL Server® for Hybrid configuration. After upgrade to 10.3, it will be required to re-enter credentials for each domain listed under Discovered Domains. Previous versions of RMAD used SQL Server® and a database, RecoveryMgrHybridRestore, was created which contained the Hybrid information. This database can be deleted as it is no longer used.

NOTE: If you modified the AntivirusConfiguration.json file (%ProgramFiles%\Quest\Recovery Manager for Active Directory\Management\AntivirusConfiguration.json) to specify the supported Antivirus software you want to use, after an upgrade or reinstall the settings from this file will be reset to the default settings and will been to be edited again after the upgrade has completed.
