Animate Execution Plans

You can animate each step in the execution plan in the order SQL Optimizer executes them.

To animate the execution plan or cancel the animation

» Right-click the execution plan and select Animate Plan Steps.

Copy Execution Plans

You can copy an execution plan from the Execution Plan pane and paste it into another file as text or a bitmap image.

To copy an execution plan

  1. In an Execution Plan pane, right-click the execution plan and select Copy.
  2. You can then paste the plan using another application such as Microsoft Word or Notepad.
    • Tree Plan, DBMS_XPLAN, and Plain Language Plan views can be pasted as text or in bitmap format. Applications such as Microsoft Word allow you to choose the format using the Paste Special option.
    • You can use text applications such as Notepad to paste execution plans in text format.
    • You can use graphic applications such as Microsoft Paint to paste execution plans in bitmap format.

Retrieve Run Results

In an Optimize SQL session (SQL Rewrite or Plan Control), you can execute the original or an alternative SQL statement to retrieve and review the statement's result set.

To retrieve result set

  1. Right-click the selected statement in the Alternatives list (or right-click the SQL text) and select Run Result.

  2. In the Run Result dialog, click . After the script executes, the result set displays in the Result pane of the Run Result dialog.

    Tip: Click to copy the SQL statement to execute in another Quest Software product.

 

 

Review Plan Alternatives

This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To review details for an alternative

  1. Select the Optimize SQL tab in the main window.
  2. Select a Plan Control session.

  3. Select an execution plan alternative in the Plans pane.

  4. Review the details of the alternative in the Execution Plan pane.

    Note: You must execute the alternatives before you can review run time statistics. See Test Run Execution Plan Alternatives for more information.
