Configure Scheduling

Spotlight's data collection schedules determine how often the Spotlight Diagnostic Server collects data from monitored servers.

The Spotlight Diagnostic Server uses three different schedules when collecting data:

• Real time - This schedule is used when the Spotlight home page or drilldowns for a monitored server are being viewed. When this happens live data is being collected. This schedule cannot be configured.
• Background - The background schedule is used when the Spotlight home page or drilldowns are not being viewed (although the Spotlight client is connected) or when no Spotlight clients are connected to the Spotlight Diagnostic Server. This schedule can be configured.

You can configure these collections to run on any day and at any time.

Notes:

• Before you change the scheduling configurations you may like to backup the current schedules. You can do this by backing up the \Agent\Conf directory in the Spotlight on SQL Server installation directory.
• The schedules of some collections cannot be modified.

To schedule data collection

1. Click Configure | Scheduling.

   

2. Choose one of the following from the connection list:
   • To change the setting for an individual connection, select the connection name.
   • To change the setting for all connections, select Default Settings.
3. Click a row in the Schedules table to select a data collection.

4. Use the following options to modify the schedule of the selected data collection:

   Option	Description
   Override the default settings for the collection	Select this option to modify the background and reporting schedules for the selected collection. Clear this option to use default settings for the selected collection.
   To modify the background schedule
   Collect data when Spotlight is not connected	Select this option to change the background collection schedule. Clearing this option turns off the background collection schedule. Data for this collection will be collected only when Spotlight is connected to the monitored server. Playback data will not be available for this collection and related alarms will not fire unless Spotlight is connected.
   Collect data every	Click the link to set the background collection schedule. Data can be collected at regular intervals or at a specific time on one or more days.
   Note: Collections with modified schedules are displayed in blue.
