Job Processes Busy Alarm

The Job Processes Busy alarm occurs when all, or most, job queue processes are busy.

Job queue processes are responsible for executing batch jobs queued via the DBMS_JOBS package. If all or most of these job queue processes are busy, it may indicate a bottleneck in batch processing.

  • The number of job queue processes is set by the configuration parameter JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES. You can alter the value of this parameter using the ALTER SYSTEM command.
  • The parameter JOB_QUEUE_INTERVAL sets the number of seconds for which job queue processes sleep when no work is available. If this parameter is set too high, job queue processes may become unresponsive in the short term. (JOB_QUEUE_INTERVAL was made obsolete on Oracle 9.0.1.)

See the Activity | Server Page to see the precise load on job queue processes.

Tip: If job queue processes are not keeping up with demand, consider increasing the number of job queue processes via the JOB_QUEUE_PROCESSES parameter.
