How to Enable Dell Updates (4294088)

The process of detecting and deploying hardware updates is very similar to the one used for device patching. Start by creating schedule updates to either detect, deploy, or both detect and deploy hardware updates. You can review the list of the available Dell updates on the catalog page. This page lists the updates for which signature files exist on the appliance.

Steps to Download Updates:

1. Review Dell Update Download Settings
   1. Security | Dell Updates | Dell Update Download Settings
   2. System | Settings | Control Panel | Dell Update Download Settings
2. Check for Update for the Dell Catalog

It is necessary to install a prerequisite application on the Dell devices: Dell OpenManage (DOM). Run an initial Detect to ensure all devices have the prerequisite application, as this application will need to be detected and installed before other Dell Hardware Updates are detected.

To create a Detect schedule for Dell Updates:

1. Go to Security | Dell Updates | Schedules
2. Choose Action | New (Wizard)

   1. All Updates
      1. The prerequisite application is always detected when using Detect All
   2. Update Labels
      1. Add Smart Label created in Dell Update Catalog for Name contains Inventory Agent (one example)

   3. Specific Devices
7. Schedule
   1. Choose a schedule or leave set to None to run on demand with Run Now
8. Save
9. Use Run Now or wait for the scheduled run to review the results

Review all results from the Schedule Status summary. Consider creating labels for the missing Dell OpenManage Inventory Agent(for Dell Business Client Systems), so that a deploy schedule for this one missing prerequisite can be deployed individually.

After the prerequisite is installed on devices, a new Detect schedule may reveal additional Dell Update information.
