OST password error on user (backup_user) when adding a DR Series Appliance to Veritas Backup Exec -
Description
When adding a DR to Backup Exec, an OST account must be used the default user is backup_user. After changing the default St0r@ge! password, the DR can't be added to Backup Exec, even after the password has been confirmed or even reset again to a non-default password. -
Cause
When changing the backup_user password, there's no character restriction or security enforcement done on the DR side. Therefore a password such as "password", may be valid.
Depending on the DMA, a character restriction and security enforcement may be in place, which would not allow a password such as "password" to be used.

Resolution
If there're doubts on the characters/security restrictions from the DMA, the backup_user password can be reset through an SSH session with "user --setpassword --name backup_user". Try using the default "St0r@ge!" password and see if that works, if it does check back the differences with the previous password to find out what kind of character(s) may be missing to be compliant with the password requirements from the DMA.
