General (Best Practices)

To set general best practices options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select Optimize SQL | Best Practices | General.

  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Display Best Practices tab in SQL Rewrite mode

    Select to display the Best Practices tab.

    Note: Best Practices is only available for SQL Rewrite session in Optimize SQL.

To set Best Practices table options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select Optimize SQL | Best Practices | Table.

  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Checked for chained rows

    Click and select whether to check tables for chained rows.

    Default: Ignore

    Ratio of smallest partition to the largest partition is less than (%)

    Enter a percentage for the ratio of the smallest partition to the largest partition in a table.

    Default: 40%

    Note: The value you enter determines whether Best Practices recommends you change the partitioning size setting.

To set Best Practices index options

  1. Click in the main menu.

  2. Select Optimize SQL | Best Practices | Index.

  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Determine selectivity when there are no statistics

    Select one of the following:

    • Ignore—Skips indexes without statistics.
    • Compute—Calculates selectivity for indexes without statistics.
    • Compute All—Calculates selectivity for indexes with and without statistics.

    Default: Compute

    Compute selectivity by sampling (%)

    Enter the percentage of data to use for calculating selectivity.

    Default: 0.10%

    Note: This value is used when you select Compute or Compute All for calculating selectivity.

    Determine if index tree is unbalanced

    Click and select whether to check for unbalanced index trees.

    Default: Ignore

  1. Click in the main menu.
  2. Select Optimize SQL | Best Practices | Statistics.

  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Warning for stale statistics when data changes are greater than (%)

    Enter the percentage of data that must be modified since the last statistics update to generate a warning message to update statistics.

    Default: 10%
