Quest KACE currently supports these 7 RemoteScan products:
• RemoteScan Enterprise This is the flagship RemoteScan product and generates the most customer contacts. This product supports most customer environments and utilizes localized hardware-based licensing, where a unique unlock key is associated with a physical MAC address on the local endpoint.
• RemoteScan Enterprise User Edition This product is functionally the same as RemoteScan Enterprise, except licenses are distributed on a per-user basis and managed within Windows Active Directory (instead of through the RemoteScan website). To utilize this product, users must log into a Windows domain and a specific Active Directory security group must be created to manage the licensed users. A RemoteScan license server component must be installed within the customer’s AD domain/forest to authenticate users. A site-specific license key is distributed to the customer which instructs the license server how many users the RemoteScan AD security group is allowed.
• RemoteScan for Terminal Services / Citrix This product is functionally the same as RemoteScan Enterprise and uses the same hardware-based licensing model but was discontinued in 2012. However, this product is still supported for customers with an active support contract. Customers using this product are incentivized to upgrade to RemoteScan Enterprise.
• RemoteScan Universal This product is functionally the same as RemoteScan Enterprise, but with the enhanced ability to communicate with Windows applications using the ISIS scanning protocol. This product is required to communicate with ISIS-only programs, such as Allscripts Document Management and Profit Tools.
• RemoteScan Universal User Edition This product is functionally the same as RemoteScan Universal but utilizes the Active Directory-based licensing model.
• RemoteScan for LAN (previously called RemoteScan Standard) This is the original RemoteScan product. It includes the same feature set as RemoteScan Enterprise but lacks the ability to initialize third-party remote connection tunnels or virtual channels, so cannot be used within Windows Server environments. This product is typically used to share a document scanner with other workstations on the same local network.
• RemoteScan Check Capture This is a specialized version of RemoteScan Enterprise aimed at remote users of bank teller software. This product is compatible with Twain 2.x-compliant check scanners and is capable of capturing/transmitting MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) data, in addition, to check image data.
