Users may encounter an issue where images captured from webcams using RemoteScan are either completely black or completely green. This issue can also be reproduced using the Generic Video Twain Data Source (VidoeDS.ds)
This issue is caused by a video pixel depth and compression format configured within the local webcam driver which is not compatible with RemoteScan.
While RemoteScan is compatible with most webcam video compression formats, RemoteScan will not currently work with MJPG. If MJPG is configured as the video format, RemoteScan will pull images which are either all black or all green.
This issue can be repaired by changing the configuration of the webcam so that it utilizes a pixel depth and video compression format which is compatible with RemoteScan.
There may be multiple ways to configure this setting, depending on the model of webcam.
Currently, the webcam video pixel depth compression formats which are compatible with RemoteScan are:
RemoteScan is known to be incompatible with following webcam video pixel depth compression format:
Some models of webcams allow this setting to be configured within the webcam driver software installed on the local PC. But, certain models of webcams (such as Logitech) don't provide an interface to modify video format. In these cases, we can install the Generic Video Twain Data Source (VideoDS.ds) onto the user's workstation at:
C:\Windows\Twain_32\VideoDS.ds
The Generic Video Twain Data Source can also be downloaded at:
https://www.remote-scan.com/downloads/VideoDS.ds
This driver interface allows the user to modify the video format for most webcams. The location where Windows stores this setting in the file system varies depending on the manufacturer of the webcam, though this is commonly put into the local Windows registry.
Note:
On certain systems, this configuration change to the webcam settings does not stick after the user logs off and then logs back on, due to user permissions. In these cases, we can assist the customer to configure RemoteScan to launch as administrator at startup. This can be accomplished by modifying the Advanced Properties of the RemoteScan shortcut file in the Startup folder on the local workstation:
