STATUS
VSS is not supported in versions of Recovery Manager for Exchange below version 4.8. See Details Below:

For Versions of Recovery Manager for Exchange 4.7.1 or earlier:
When using the Access Exchange backups by using third-party software (emulation) method, a VSS backup will not work up to and including version 4.7.1 of Recovery Manager for Exchange. These versions canonlybring inOnline Streaming backups.

WORKAROUND
As a workaround restore the Snapshot/Image to a Recovery Storage Group (Exchange 2003) and use the Access offline Exchange database or .pst files method in Recovery manager for Exchange. Once the restore of the of the database to the Recovery Storage Group is complete, dismount that store and point Recovery Manager for Exchange to the resulting EDB file.

RESOLUTION
For Versions of Recovery Manager for Exchange 4.8 and later:
VSS Snapshot backups are now supported if created by certain backup software vendors. Check your documentation for a list of supported vendors.
