When attempting to remote to a workstation using Expert Assist, you may receive the message “ExpertAssist is not licensed on this machine” after the login page.
The RemoteDesktop value is not present or is located under the wrong registry key. On a 64-bit workstation, the RemoteDesktop value may have been created under the HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Scriptlogic key instead of the HKLM\Software\Scriptlogic key.
Locate the Desktop Authority client file “slagent.exe” on the remote machine, then copy the path to the clipboard. By default this location will be:
C:\Program Files\Dell\Desktop Authority\Client Files\\ (9.3 and 10.x, 32-bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\Desktop Authority\Client Files\\ (9.3 and 10,x, 64-bit)
C:\Program Files\Quest\Desktop Authority\Client Files\\ (11.x, 32-bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest\Desktop Authority\Client Files\\ (11.x, 64-bit)
Next, locate the “SLAgentInstallLocation” string value in the registry on the remote machine. This value is located at:
HKLM\Software\ScriptLogic\SLAgent
Verify that the data for the value “SLAgentInstallLocation” matches the actual path to the “slagent.exe” file. If the path is different, paste the path that was copied in the first step.
Once this is done restart both of the remote management services below and try the connection again:
DA Remote Management Service
DA Remote Management Maintenance Service
(In case of a recent upgrade and the Expert Assist client did not upgrade, verify that the RMUpgradeFailed value does not exist in the registry. Delete it if it does: HKLM\Software\ScriptLogic\’RMUpgradeFailed’)
If this is not successful, then follow the procedure below:
Create the Scriptlogic registry key under HKLM\Software if it is not currently present. While the Scriptlogic key is selected, create a REG_DWORD value RemoteDesktop with a value data of 1. Restart both the DA Remote Management Service and the DA Remote Management Maintenance Service.
